DANCE DAY 2026 + PERFORM with R&M!

JOIN US FOR DANCE DAY 2026!

Art, culture, a party and a communal celebration, Yerba Buena Gardens Dance Day is a portal to a joyous dance-filled world! Presented in partnership with the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, YBG Dance Day transforms the Gardens into an outdoor dance center where participants can sample dance in a variety of forms and flavors with some of the Bay Area’s most talented teachers including: Rhythm & Motion Dance Workout, Bachata, Jazz Funk, Soul Line Dance and more.  Whether you are new to dance or a seasoned professional, Yerba Buena Gardens Dance Day classes are open to everyone!

This year, Dance Day honors the life and legacy of Rhythm & Motion founder Consuelo Faust (1953-2025). We celebrate the spirit she championed – living the belief that anyone can dance and that dance has the power to bring people together in joy. Following the day of classes, there will be a celebratory music and dance performance that uplifts her vision and the vibrant SF Bay Area dance community she deeply loved and helped to nurture throughout her life. Performances will include works by: Carola Zertuche, Jill Parker, Elizabeth Soberanes, Tania Santiago, Amy Siewert, MJ’s Brass Boppers and more.

We would love for you to join us for one (or both) opportunities to spread the love and joy of dance with your R&M community!

Please respond by Thursday, September 17.

WANT TO PERFORM AT YBG DANCE DAY?

October 11 - Perform at Dance Day 2026

2:00– 3:30pm
Yerba Buena Gardens
Mission St. between 3rd & 4th Sts.
San Francisco, CA

As part of the Dance Day performances, R&M invites you to join us on the Yerba Buena Gardens’ Great Lawn which will serve as our stage for a community piece built from R&M routines and movement phrases you may recognize from class.

The piece will unfold in two sections. The first will be staged, structured choreography, and we're looking for folks who are excited to stretch their brains, learn staging and formations, and commit to remembering 6 minutes of choreography. The second 4-minute section opens things up in a more traditional R&M style, with a follow-along dance inviting the audience to move with us - a fitting close to a day built on Consuelo's belief that anyone can dance.

If you've ever wanted to learn a piece from start to finish and perform it with a community you love, this is your invitation.

DANCE WITH PRIDE
"BEST OVERALL CONTINGENT" AT THE SF PRIDE PARADE!

We're thrilled to share that the Rhythm & Motion and Dancers' Group's Dance with Pride contingent was voted Best Overall Contingent in the SF Pride Parade - chosen by community vote from among 5 nominees and over 200 contingents that marched on June 28! The award recognizes outstanding visual presentation, emotional content, integration of the theme "Resistance in Action," and the energy, coordination, and joy a contingent brings to Market Street. The announcement was made at SF Pride's annual "Night of Thanks" celebration on Friday, August 14, and we are humbled and honored to receive this recognition.

Thank you to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and the SF Pride Parade judges for nominating us for this recognition and thank you to the community of voters who cast their votes in support of Dance with Pride. And to the 195+ dancers and volunteers who helped make this contingent shine...this belongs to all of us! We are proud to have danced in the streets on Pride Sunday, and just as proud to commit to showing up for our LGBTQ+ community and continuing the work and advocacy all year long.

If you want to relive the spirit of the day, check out Dance With Pride 2026 to see the joy, movement, and community that made our contingent stand out.

Save the date: we'll be back on the streets for SF Pride on Sunday, June 27, 2027.

WELCOME, EMILY KLEEMAN!

We're thrilled to announce that Emily Kleeman has joined Rhythm & Motion as our new Business Operations Manager. As part of the R&M office team, she'll be working alongside R&M Director Dudley Flores, Program Associate Maggie Connard, and company owner Thor Anderson.

Emily brings years of experience building products, growing teams, and shaping strategy in the tech world, but dance has always been part of her life. She danced when she was young, stepped away for a long stretch, and found her way back to it through R&M. She’s excited to put her professional skills to use in a community and company that means so much to her.

We're so glad to have her energy, insight, and love of dance on the team! Please give her a warm welcome next time you see her in the studio!

CONGRATULATIONS DANCE WITH PRIDE

On Sunday, June 28, almost 200 enthusiastic dancers and volunteers took to the streets to "Dance with Pride" with Rhythm & Motion and Dancers' Group in the San Francisco Pride Parade.

In his wrap up letter to the contingent, R&M Director, Dudley Flores wrote:

For me, Dance with Pride has always been about creating a place where people can celebrate, commemorate, and stand up for one another. I want queer people to dance their hearts out and share who they are through movement. I want those who fought for the rights many of us enjoy today to experience the joy they helped make possible. I want parents and children to dance together and for each other. I want allies to stand beside our LGBTQ+ community and remember that advocacy, for all human rights and freedoms, doesn't begin and end in June. I want visitors to leave San Francisco feeling welcomed, loved, and hopeful.

We'd like to extend a big congratulations to out entire contingent and a heartfelt thanks to our broader community for the support! We'd also like to give a special shout of thanks to our co-presenter, Dancers' Group, and our 2026 partner organizations ODC and the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival for their trust in the vision. We are so grateful.

VOTE DANCE WITH PRIDE FOR
"BEST OVERALL CONTINGENT"

Out of more than 200 contingents that participated in this year's San Francisco Pride Parade, Dance with Pride has been nominated as one of five finalists for Best Overall Contingent.

While we've received the "Absolutely Fabulous Musical" contingent award in past years, this "Best Overall" award recognizes contingents with outstanding visual presentation, emotional content, creative expression, energy and joy a contingent brings to Market Street, and the incorporation of the official Pride theme: "Resistance in Action."

Please take a moment to vote for Dance with Pride for Best Overall Contingent, and if you're willing, share the voting link with others. Every vote helps us share the story of what this dance community stands for, and for the joy and hope we strive to create together.

Note: The nomination lists us as "Rhythm in Motion - Dancers With Pride" which isn't quite our name - we're Rhythm & Motion and Dancers' Group and our contingent is Dance with Pride

We'd be so grateful if you'd take a moment to cast your vote for us.

OUTDOOR CLASSES

R&M IS HIRING

After several years of operating with a small, "all-hands-on-deck" team in our office, we are excited to be in a moment when growing our administrative team feels both possible and energizing! To this end, we are seeking candidates for two positions: Business Operations Manager and Marketing Content Associate

As part of the Rhythm & Motion community, we hope that you have experienced the thought and care that goes into our program. We're looking for people who work collaboratively, bring thoughtfulness and initiative, hold care for people alongside care for their work, and have a genuine love for dance. Our work includes the commitment to day-to-day tasks, a deep collaboration with our communities, and lending a hand in shaping what comes next. As we grow, we look forward to continuing to bring the joy of dance to everyone!

Rhythm & Motion - A Year in Review and Thank You

THANK YOU FOR A BEAUTIFUL YEAR

As we near the end of 2025 and look back on all that this year held, we’re reminded of how meaningful it was to share countless moments of movement, connection, and community with all of you.

The year asked us to hold many things at once - gratitude and grief, uncertainty and resilience, hope and joy - and we did it the best way we know how: by dancing together. Your energy, generosity, and willingness to show up and dance through it all - the sweaty classes, emotional highs and lows, spontaneous laughter, sing-alongs, shared milestones, and your own personal journeys - form the heartbeat of Rhythm & Motion. Together, we carry forward a deeply rooted 46-year (and counting) legacy.

Thank you for being part of this community and for shaping what it continues to become.

If you’d like to revisit some moments from the year, we invite you to watch our Rhythm & Motion Year in Review video. It captures the spirit of what we shared in 2025 - hundreds of dance classes, Pride, Bay Area Dance Week, new faces, fond farewells and more. It honors and reflects our long-held belief that “anyone can dance” and that coming together to celebrate the art and ritual of dance, and all the people who bring it to life (this includes you!), has always been at the center of who we are.

Here’s to what we’ve shared, what we’re building, and all the dances still to come.
We look forward to creating another year of memories with all of you.

ALL STAR RHYTHM & MOTION CLASS - THANK YOU!

On Sunday, Nov. 9th our R&M community came together for a joyful R&M All Star Class to support the purchase of a new sound system for our classes at Berkeley Ballet. The turnout was incredible and everyone's generosity helped us reach above and beyond our goal!  Thank you to our amazing R&M All Star event teaching team - Leigh Marz, Eyla Moore, Jess Bozzo, Liz Muller, Tamika Banks, and Dudley Flores - for leading us through the joyful sweat-fest!

We are so grateful for all of YOU and for all the ways you show up for one another, for our teachers, and for the studio spaces, like Berkeley Ballet, we call home. Thank you for all the love!

Check out video from the event on Rhythm & Motion's Instagram.

CONGRATULATIONS, GLOBAL DANCE PASSPORT PERFORMERS!

Please give a round of applause to Jessica Lutes and the 14 R&M Modern dancers who performed in their piece "We Hold Each Other Up" in the ODC Global Dance Passport student showcase last weekend at the ODC Theater. The focus, heart and connection these dancers brought to the stage was stunning, and the way they moved together was a beautiful representation of Rhythm & Motion.

And, to all the dancers in the showcase - including many R&Mers performing in pieces throughout the program - thank you and congratulations! It was a great show!

Adding to the significance of the weekend, ODC School Director, Kimi Okada, dedicated the showcase to Consuelo Faust, Rhythm & Motion's founder, who passed away in May of this year. Consuelo, together with then Associate Artistic Director Peter Rothblatt, launched the original version of the showcase in 1998 at the Rhythm & Motion Dance Center. When R&M moved its programs to ODC in 2006, the showcase came with it and, over the years, evolved into its current form. Kimi's dedication was a meaningful acknowledgement of Consuelo's vision - that anyone can dance - a vision that continues to shape the community we've built together through the ongoing partnership between R&M and ODC.
