Leigh Marz (she/her)

I love teaching for Rhythm & Motion. I see it as critical to my master plan for joyfully transforming the world. As a teacher, I’m interested in helping students to find space for dance in their lives—whether they are returning to dance after a hiatus or finding their way to dance for the very first time. I love how in R&M classes we can lose ourselves and find ourselves again—all in one hour!

I took my first dance class at age 5—a free-form African dance class for kids in New Brunswick, New Jersey. This class set a high bar—one that I still hold—for a class that feels warm and welcoming, spirited, and unapologetically fun.

When not dancing or doing choreography (for R&M and others), I write and facilitate cross-sector groups working on important environmental issues. I’m the co-author of Golden: The Power of Silence in a World of Noise—a non-meditator’s guide to getting beyond the noise (Hint: R&M classes are one of the best ways I know to find internal quiet—even amidst the party beats!).

I would describe becoming a Rhythm & Motion instructor as a peak moment in my already extremely blessed life. I’m deeply inspired by our mission and the vast range of our choreography. I treasure my fellow R&M instructors and the community that’s been built over decades.

It’s an ecstatic experience to share dance in this way.
