TEACHER TRAINING

If accepted into the R&M Teacher Training Program, dancers undergo intensive training to build the skills required to be a certified Rhythm & Motion class instructor.  Dancers who are new to teaching will learn how to organize knowledge intrinsic to their body and effectively articulate it to an “all-levels welcome” dance class. Experienced dance teachers will refine and develop an even stronger skill set for teaching dance classes. Additionally, through the R&M training you will receive:

  • Individualized attention and mentorship to help amplify your unique teaching voice

  • Effective cueing and teaching techniques that emphasize accessibility and inclusion

  • Comprehensive instructor manual

  • Access to R&M’s extensive library of music and choreography

  • Support from a dedicated, vibrant community of like-minded dance artists and teachers

  • Access to messages, chat and conversations with the Master Trainer and experienced instructors.

  • Free R&M classes to supplement your learning/teaching experience.

  • Other additional employee benefits provided by the studio and ongoing teaching, marketing and administrative support upon completion of your training.

The duration of the in-studio training sessions with the R&M master trainers vary based on the number of dancers in a training cohort. Typically, the training period is built around the dancers’ schedules and held twice a week, 2-3 hrs/day for 4-5 weeks. This is followed by a period of mentored independent study (approx 1-3 months). The training concludes with a final skills assessment.

A training fee is required for those who are accepted into the training program via the audition. Upon completion of the full teacher training, and after teaching your first R&M class as a part-time employee, this training fee will be fully refunded.

WHAT IS RHYTHM & MOTION?

Rhythm & Motion Dance Workout classes (R&M for short) were founded in San Francisco, CA in 1979 and have been named “San Francisco’s favorite dance workout” by local media outlets and countless students for decades. The class balances the challenge of learning choreography and movement techniques with the dance-floor euphoria of a good party - they are fun, fast-paced, welcoming, extra sweaty and open to all students of all levels and abilities.

Taught by experienced dancers and performing artists, R&M features a broad range of movement styles with choreography inspired by popular music from around the globe. The (mostly) follow-along class format starts with a well-balanced warm-up and leads to high energy stamina and strength building choreography. Through these classes, we create positive vibes, build community, and introduce people to the world of dance through the lenses of both the instructor and Rhythm & Motion’s 40+ year legacy.
