PRIDE PARADE FAQs
How do I learn the choreography?
There are three ways you can learn the trio of routines we'll perform in this year's parade:
- Attend select Rhythm & Motion Fusion and Essentials classes throughout the month of June.
- Learn the dances from home with online tutorial videos.
- Practice the dances with others in at least two in-person rehearsals.*
*All registrants are required to attend at least two rehearsals, as this is a performance and we want our contingent to look sharp for the crowd, the live broadcast and the judges! The rehearsals will also help you learn how to appropriately and safely move the choreography through space (i.e. while traveling down Market Street) and we will learn more about the message and themes we aim to embody in celebration and in support of Pride and the LGBTQ+ community.
Can I try out the dances before I register?
Absolutely! In addition to seeing the dances online or in an R&M class, you are welcome to “try it on for size” and come to an open rehearsal and learn the dances without pre-registering for the contingent. Don’t forget - the absolute last day to register is Friday, June 20. We need a final head count by that date so that we can make our final preparations.
What does my registration go towards?
Registration fees are used to pay all of the expenses related to the contingent’s Pride Parade production. In addition to your t-shirt and at least 2 required rehearsals (but you can attend as many as you'd like) the fee helps to cover application fees, insurance, t-shirt production and printing, video tutorial production, artists fees, rehearsal space rentals, truck rental, audio rental, banners, decor, supplies and more. In addition to the registration fee, additional support is always welcome and every bit of financial support will help to make the contingent shine. This additional support will also help us subsidize registration fees for contingent members who are also performing artists and those in financial need. (Please select a higher ticket pricing option to help support the contingent.)
Please note: an additional Eventbrite processing fee will be added to the ticket price at checkout.
Are there any discounts?
We want to make sure that anyone interested in this event can participate. If the fee is a challenge for you, please contact us to discuss work exchange options or payment plans. We are also offering an early bird discount on registration until May 31.
Or, if you are a part-time or full-time working dancer or performing artist, use discount code DANCER50 at checkout for a 50% discount. (Please only use this code if you identify as a working dancer/artist.)
Is there an age limit to participate in the Dance with Pride contingent?
We love your kids but for safety reasons, we do not recommend that those under age 14 participate in this contingent. The parade route is long, fast moving, and a bit chaotic. Plus, you'll be lost in the moment dancing your butt off! Have them come with friends or family instead, so they can cheer you on from the sidelines. If you have any questions, please contact us.
How long is the parade route? How long will we be dancing?
The SF Pride Parade runs along Market Street starting at Beale St and ends on 8th St. It’s approximately 1.5 miles. We will be dancing anywhere from 60 minutes to 1 hour and 20 mins - the time will depend on how fast the parade moves. But don’t worry, we’ll make sure we move at a comfortable and steady pace for everyone’s safety and enjoyment. (We’ll also have water for everyone to help stay hydrated along the route.)
What do participants wear for the parade?
All registrants will receive a limited edition Dance with Pride shirt to wear on parade day. You are welcome to add anything you'd like to enhance your look. Go as wild and crazy or as sleek and simple as you want. Comfy, supportive shoes and sunscreen highly recommended.
How do I get my limited edition Dance with Pride shirt?
We will be handing out the shirts to registrants at the pre-parade rehearsals the week of the parade. Only those registered dancers who have fulfilled the two rehearsal requirement will receive their t-shirt. Volunteers can pick up their t-shirts at any time.
What can/can't I bring to the event?
Please bring as little with you as possible, as we will not be able to store any belongings for you on the audio truck while we dance. Give your belongings to spectator friends for safekeeping, wear a small "fanny pack" or find another way to keep essential items on your person.
Exactly when and where will we meet on parade morning?
We are contingent #87 and our call time for the 2025 Pride Parade is 10am. Our meeting location is Main St. at Market St. We will start out contingent rehearsal at 10:30am and anticipate step-off to be around 11:30 - 12pm.
What are my transport/parking options?
We strongly recommend that you take public transportation to and from the event as driving anywhere near the assembly area and parade route will be difficult. The assembly area is easily accessible by BART or MUNI using the Embarcadero Station stop (come up on the south of Market side). See the SF Pride Transit Guide for helpful links and information.
What if I want to participate, but don't have time to learn the routines or I just want to support the dancers?
To keep our group moving smoothly we need the help of many volunteers. Please invite friends and family to come out and support our group. They'll have a great time in the process - and get a limited edition shirt to boot! Volunteers supply dancers with water and snacks, hand out stickers and postcards to the crowd, and carry our contingent banner. Questions? Contact us.
What is the refund policy?
You may cancel any time on or before June 20 and receive a full refund. After June 20 we are unable to issue refunds for cancellation, but you may transfer your registration to someone else.
Whom can I contact if I have questions?
Email us, or stop by the Rhythm & Motion office on the ground floor of ODC Dance Commons at 351 Shotwell Street in San Francisco. We're here to help!
Anything else I should know?
The SF Pride organizers shared this Pride Parade Contingent Monitor training video (please note: it is labeled “2024” but was distributed this year.) All volunteers should watch the video and complete the required training quiz. Dancers are not required to watch this video, but it does contain helpful information about parade day logistics.
